Nyuto Onsen Questions 2013/10/10 11:49
Planning to stay in Nyuto Onsen to get the full experience of its wonders.

1. Can I book last minute accommodations? If so, which one do you recommend?

2. Is there a tourist office there to book a last minute room on the spot?

3. Can we walk around the town easily and visit the other onsen facilities?

Can I book last minute accommodations?

It depends on vacancies.

If so, which one do you recommend?

Tsurunoyu is the best. But probably also least likely to have vacancies.

I don't think that any of the ryokan can be reserved online, so you would have to call (probably Japanese only).

Is there a tourist office there to book a last minute room on the spot?

Not in Nyuto Onsen. But the tourist office at Towadako Station may be able to help, although again I am not sure whether they have English speakers.

3. Can we walk around the town easily and visit the other onsen facilities?

Except for the Tsurunoyu, all the ryokan are within relatively easy walking distance of each other:

Thanks, Uji!
How does Nyuto Onsen compare to Noboribetsu?
Definitely more rustic?
Waters better or comparable to Noboribetsu?

Which one do you like more?
I really respect your opinion.
Thank you.

I am debating if I should stay overnight or just do a day trip from Akita. I plan to get the JR East Pass because my trip is mostly in this region.

How does Nyuto Onsen compare to Noboribetsu?

They are almost opposites. Noboribetsu is built up with lots of huge hotel complexes. Nyuto Onsen is small and rustic. There is little rusticity in Noboribetsu. Nyuto Onsen is also older than Noboribetsu.

Waters better or comparable to Noboribetsu?

Noboribetsu's waters are among Japan's best. Difficult to beat. Tsurunoyu's water is also very nice. And the fact that it bubbles up naturally in the large rotemburo adds to the experience, although some people will find the rotemburo a little bit luke warm. I can't remember the water in the other ryokan in Nyuto Onsen.

Which one do you like more?

For the rustic atmosphere and ryokan, I prefer Nyuto, especially Tsurunoyu. For the water, I would slightly prefer Noboribetsu.
