Is the tuna auction area in Tsukiji Fish Market open to tourists/ visitors during first week of Jan 2014? Tsukiji Fish market official website only provides calendar information up till end of 2013. Some websites mention that fish market will resume business after New Years but tuna auction will remain closed to visitors till end of Jan? Is it possible to get a confirmation whether TUNA AUCTION is open on 6th Jan 2014 as I will be in Tokyo only on that day.

Sorry, the tuna auctions don't usually open to visitors again until around the 20th of January.

Some says tuna auction is just a performance nowadays.
Although I didn't agree, I don't know exactly.
Can anyone confirm ?
By the way, do they require any special license for persons who participate the auction ?
If so, what kind of license ?

Yes, and you can visit the wholesale and outer markets during this time.
