Karuizawa is late in opening this year. Why?

I understand that Karuizawa usually opens in mid Nov as they have snow making machines. But it seems not so this year. They are only opening in mid Dec. Why?

You are misinformed. The ski resort is open as I type this. However, as always during the early season, only a limited part of the resort is open now (2 out of 9 lifts).
