You can take the Kintetsu railway from Nagoya to Yamato-yagi by express ltd. and change here to Kashihara-line to Saidaiji st. and also change here to Nara-line to Nara st.
It perhaps be cheaper than Shinkansen line.
Off cause Main line between Nagoya and Nara is Shinkansen and Nara line (JR) or Kintetsu kyoto line to Nara.
