Tsukiji is normally closed the first few days of the new year.

Restaurants in the Inner Market are all closed when the market is closed. Here is their schedule for 2014: http://www.shijou.metro.tokyo.jp/calendar/2014.htmlSome sushi restaurants in the Outer Market will be closed, since they can't buy fresh fish because the fish market is closed. I think some branches of Zanmai might be open though - you can check their website or call them.

Thanks, interesting that it appears that the market is open Sunday 5th Jan which is great (although all other Sunday's for the year are closed).
