Express Train - Ueno to Minakami

We will be going to Ryokan Tanigawa this May.
Either we take Joetsu Shinkansan from Tokyo to JR Jomo Kogan station then a 25 minutes bus ride to Minakami Station or Express train from Ueno to Minakami.
We prefer the slower train.
Please advice whether the express train operated by JR East still in service. We could not find it on hyperdia.

No, Minakami is not served by the limited express train anymore.

If you don't mind transferring, you can take the LEX Kusatsu-go to Shibukawa and transfer to local train.
