Cycling in Arashiyama

I will be visiting Arashiyama next Friday.
1) Is it easy to cycle around that area? steep slopes/rocky grounds?
2) I would like to cycle around but take the raft down the lake, how can I do this with a bike in tow? or can I leave the bike somewhere (without having to hike back to get it)

I think it is fairly easy to cycle around, the areas i walked around, Bamboo grove to Togetsukyo Bridge, didn't have any slopes.

It's easy to cycle along the river (upstream) up to a certain point along the western bank. The locals do it too.
