I plan to buy this ticket in my upcoming travel with 4 members of my family as it seems to be the cheapest going to Osaka. I would appreciate if someone can please give an updated information, as .the blogs are old and not updated. Thank you for any help.

My English link with seat prices is four years old. I have not seen anything about a rate hike, but I'm sure there will be. http://nihonshock.com/2010/02/puratto-kodama-cheap-shinkansen-tickets/If your are doing a round trip and plan to go back to Tokyo, you might try this. Get Puratto tickets from Tokyo to Nagoya, and then use a five day Kintetsu Pass to get you to Osaka. This will also give you transportation to Kyoto, Nara, and Yoshino (if your are going for Cherry blossoms). You can then use the pass to get back to Nagoya, and take the Puratto ticket to get back to Tokyo. http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2357_006.htmlTokyo to Nagoya - 7900 Kintetsu Pass - 3700 This gives you some trasportation in the Osaka/Kyoto/Nara area for slightly less than the two Puratto Tickets. I hope this helps.

Thank you very much for your replies. We will not be going back to tokyo as we are flying out from Osaka. Also we have booked our hotel in Osaka from April 12 to 18. Our itinerary in osaka includes kyoto, Nara and yonoshino, thus your suggestion to get Kintetsu pass is very interesting to me. Could you please guide me on where to buy the kintetsu pass in Nagoya.. Thanks a lot for the help.

The kintetsu link I provided in my earlier post says that the exchange orders can be purchased at either Nagoya Airport, or Kansai Airport near Osaka. It also says that it can be aquired outside the united states.
It seems weird that you can't get it at Nagoya Station. If you are already in Japan, I would try a travel plaze a Nagoya Station, or the adjacent Kintetsu Nagoya Station.

The disadvantage of Kintetsu Pass is that a purchase where possible is limited. It is necessary to purchase the exchange order at sales offices in your country, and then received by the Central Airport or Kansai Airport. http://www.kintetsu.co.jp/foreign/english/useful/ticket/rpw1-1.html#2As an alternative, go to Kyoto using Puratto Kodama, 3 days is to move the Kansai area by using the KANSAI THRU PASS from there. You can ride to the public bus and private railway almost all except the JR by using it. However, there is a need to pay a separate charge to get on the express train, then, additional fee is required in order to go to Yoshino. http://www.surutto.com/tickets/kansai_thru_english.html
