Places between Misawa and Tokyo using JR East 2014/4/19 20:25
What are a few places to stop and see using my JREast pass coming back from Misawa to Tokyo?

I have 3 days... how can I make the most of the pass and the sites? I found train schedules can eat up so much time.

thanks

Most of the Tohoku Region is located along the way. I recommend to pick according to personal interest:

Thanks, I had previously reviewed all the places and chose Nagano and Matsumoto because they are fairly close to each other. In addition, I can see a castle and a shrine. I wondered if these were the best choices given the time of year. Will they be to busy with tourists. I was second guessing my choice and wondered if there any really special places within the train route that I didn't consider. Matsumoto looks beautiful at night. Is there a problem roaming around late at night to see it. I know it closes at 5pm. Do people then just wait a few hours until in gets dark?

Also, curious with the raw horse meet and wasabi ice cream. Is there a special place for these?

thanks!

I had previously reviewed all the places and chose Nagano and Matsumoto because they are fairly close to each other.

But they are not along the way between Tokyo and Misawa. As a matter of fact, it takes more time to get from Misawa to Nagano or Matsumoto than to Tokyo. From your word choice "between" I assumed you want to see something along the way.

I wondered if these were the best choices given the time of year. Will they be to busy with tourists.

You don't mention when you will be traveling. During Golden Week, it will be busy.

I was second guessing my choice and wondered if there any really special places within the train route that I didn't consider.

The following places along the route are special to me:

Matsumoto looks beautiful at night.

But I am not sure whether the castle is lit up outside of the cherry blossom season. I feel it may not.

Is there a problem roaming around late at night to see it.

The outer park is open around the clock.

Thank you so much for the additional areas of interest Uji. I totally agree these are more in route on my return journey. I could probably see more and many are even more beautiful. I am traveling back from Misawa on Aug 11 - 15th. Will any of the sites you suggest be less crowded during my time?

I had thought 2 days stopping somewhere in route back and then 1 day at Mt Fuji / Kawaguchiko. Then head back for 2 days in Tokyo.

thanks again for all wonderful suggestions. I will start reviewing them one by one.

Did you work at Misawa at one point or are you stationed there now?

Uji,

I have reviewed the sites you suggested and would like to visit Yamagata and Nikko. My concern is there are so many trains to take to get to them and Nikko is such a large area.

Will I have time to visit both in 2 days to include the train time?

then I wanted to go directly to Mt Fuji. What is the best side to go to coming from Nikko?

thanking you in advance.
