Daisetuzan 1 day visit worth it? 2014/6/1 02:16
Hi,
I had plans on going to visit the Daisetsuzan area, probably by the Asahidake Onsen ropeway and do at least the 1 hour walking course (I don't think it is manageable to go to the summit within the bus times from Asahikawa anyway).

My question is, is it worth it? Since the fee from going from Asahikawa to the Asahidake Onsen and back is past 5000 yen.

Are there no discounts available for the ropeway or bus?

Are there any better of sights possible as daytrips from Sapporo?

My question is, is it worth it?

If it is from Sapporo, then I am afraid it is too much effort for just one hour of walking. If you could at least spend more time there, it would be worth it. But although Daisestuzan is my favorite place in Japan, I would not recommend it to someone who will only have an hour around the ropeway.

It depends on your interests. For volcanic mountain scenery, I recommend hiking Mount Tarumae (rental car strongly recommended) above Lake Shikotsuko:

For onsen I recommend Noboribetsu:

For city sightseeing, I recommend Otaru:

Uji,
Thank you very much for your reply!

About the hiking I could of course do more than a 1 hour course being back to the last bus. Since Hokkaido is so far away it might not be possible to return here later so.

I was thinking of staying one night in Asahikawa maybe but it would be depending on weather. If weather is bad all week it would be too bad, no hiking or views. So I choose Sappoo for that reason.
