2 day Kyoto trip 2014/6/29 14:19
I'm trying to plan my stay in Kyoto for 3 days.

On my first day I want to go to Kiyomizudera, Sannen-zaka, Nanzenji, Ginkakuji, Gion. On the second day I want to go to Arashiyama and visit the Iwatayama Monkey Park, Tenryu-ji, Jojakkoji, Gioji, Saga toriimoto preserved street, Adashino Nembutsuji, Otagi Nenbutsu-ji. On my third day I will be going to the Fushimi Inari shrine and Nara. I'll be staying the night on the third night as well.

Few questions:

I know that most people here would stay to spend a few extra days in Kyoto, but I'm not too sure I'll be able to, so is my plan realistic? I don't want to rush seeing the temples. I also don't want to get too 'templed-out'. A couple of my friends who have visited Kyoto have said that even one day in Kyoto is enough.

What should I do on the third night after going to Nara?

Any suggestions would be appreciated, thank you

Yes, your plan looks realistic and not too hectic.
And your friends say ONE day in Kyoto is enough?? Only if you really dislike temples and shrines! You could spend a hectic 10 days in Kyoto and not see all that there is.
The key to not getting templed out is to break things up a bit, and not see one temple or shrine after another, then after another....
Do something else like visit the Nishiki shopping street, or in eastern Kyoto between Heian Shrine and Nanzenji see the beautiful (yet often overlooked) Murin-an Garden.
For a 3rd day of activities, there are many possibilities - it is all up to your interests. There are the famous castles at Himeji and Hikone. Or if you want something more spiritual you can go see Koyasan. And for a taste of old Japan, go see Miyama, as shown on:

Plus if you want to see another city, go visit Kobe for a day.
You could see Osaka as well - especially after a day of sightseeing in Kyoto. When the temples and shrines close about 5PM, just zip over to Osaka for the evening to see Dotonbori, or the new Abeno Harukas building night view which is spectacular. See:

You have a lot of possibilities. If you want to do more research, try looking at:
