Sim card for iPhone 2014/7/28 18:33
Hi guys,

Ive done some researching but couldn't find the right answer. So me and my partner are going to Japan and we have both iPhones so we need sim cards, prepaid ones. We need to make calls overseas during our stay, so what would be suitable and affordable company to use?

Thanks in advance.

Your only calls will be to overseas numbers? Then (assuming your phones are unlocked) you could go with a data only sim and use something like skype or google voice to make your calls. Alternatively you could get a portable wifi hotspot to split between you guys, or just wait till you're in your hotel and use their free internet. How long will your trip be? Short length stays (under 2 weeks) may be better off with B-mobile's visitor sims while longer stays should look into econnect or global advanced communications.

Sorry I should had explained more, we are staying 3 weeks and we need to be able to make calls in Japan as well. We are not staying in a hotel and won't have the opportunity to use Wifi at the place we are staying in.

Out phones are unlocked so I prefer a prepaid.

If you only need to make calls (and not receive them), a prepaid data SIM + Skype should be enough. Make your pick among b-mobile, econnect and so-net (and maybe others).

We need to be able to call each other as well during our stay because I will be spending my own time away from my partner so it would be great if we can find the lowest rates.

You can also use Skype (or something similar) to call each other, so a data-only plan will be enough.

econnect: https://www.econnectjapan.com/
so-net: http://www.so-net.ne.jp/prepaid/en/

It would be cheapest to get some sort of unlimited data plan and then use voip, skype, or texting to keep in touch, but if you absolutely need true voice service it is possible to rent sim cards that include voice and data. They are just significantly more expensive than data-only plans (like up to 15-30 times more expensive). Here's a few companies that offer rental sims:
