Any interest place in Hokkaido after mid Oct? 2014/7/29 10:10
Plan to visit Hokkaido during 17-23 Oct,2014. Not sure if Farm Tomita, chocolate factory, cheese factory are still open for visiting?

Farm Tomita wouldn't have any lavender left
Chocolate factory open

You could go to the cities for a few days and to the national parks on other days. The autumn colours are really nice to walk about. Daisetsuzan and Akan national parks

Lavender in Furano will be gone by Oct but Farm Tomita still keeps a greenhouse of lavender that can be seen year round. The rainbow colour Irodori Field in Farm Tomita will be gone too but they still maintain some colourful flowers during the first half of Oct.

A lot depends on the unpredictable weather but in average year mid Oct is a very good time for autumn foliage in the southern part of Hokkaido. Slightly tricky is Daisetsu-zan National Park as the best time is said to be around the early half of Oct. When we went up Mt. Kurodake in Sounkyo on Oct 9, koyo was long gone and we saw traces of snow instead! But down by the foot of the mt and surrounding mt slopes autumn colour can still be seen everywhere. To a greater extend of certainty your time frame should be fine for koyo south of Sapporo such as area around Jozankei, Houheikyou Dam and Niseko. Come late Oct and you can even enjoy it further south in Hakodate and the Onuma Quasi-National Park.
