Carrying Antipsychotics to Japan 2014/8/3 23:46
Hi

I am a 32 year old male travelling to japan for the first time.

I have a question, which is can i take my anti psychotic medication (which is for schizophrenia) and get through customs and immigration with it?

I have looked around the web and sent a couple of emails but the rules arnt too clear.

I am holidaying from 26th August until 26th September , so as its only a month i dont need a Yakkan Shomei?

I think clonazepam may be restricted.

I could do with a little advice to get through customs at Haneda or Narita airport in Japan.

My medication for the month is as follows

Sodium Valproate 1g 60 sachets

Amisulpride 100mg 30 tablets

Clonazepam 500mg tablets 56 tablets

Clozapine 100mg tablets

Will i get stopped at the airport? What should i say and how should i handle this?

I went to Hawaii in 2012 with the same meds and it was no problem.

I will have my Dr's letter with me

Anyone an expert on the subject, or can help me i would be very grateful

Thanks

Laurie

If you want to bring an import-restricted drig, you need a yakkan shounmei regardless of your duration of stay. And since obtaining one requires you to mail it to Japan and wait for it to be returned before you leave, you need to hurry.

The relevant page is http://www.mhlw.go.jp/english/topics/import/index.html

Above link has a list of psychotropics and allowed amounts starting on p 5.

Hope that helps.
