I live in Australia and am planning to visit Japan Sept/Oct 2015. I want to stay on manga Island , Tashirojima, for a night or two (with my two teenage sons and 11yr old daughter) but can't find where to book. I'm just starting to research places to visit in my trip. Would be glad of any help

I visited this island in August and have some advice for you and anyone else who stumbles on this question if they're looking to go there:
The cats are almost all super friendly, approaching and following some distance in some cases. But.. they were not in particularly good health. Food wise they seemed ok, but the piles of biscuits left for them would quickly swarm with ants and it was obviously unpleasant for the cats to eat them.
The bigger problem was eye and nose infections. I guess it's not really surprising in a feral population though. I'd estimated about 80% of the cats had an infection and because of this I just felt really bad for them and the island was a letdown.
If Hiroshima is on the plan I'd detour to Okunoshima (Rabbit Island) instead (or as well). Best place I went to animal-wise.

There are heaps of cats on Enoshima too. And Hawks, I've never seen a flock of hawks before but there are essentially swarms of them at Enoshima, as you go over the bridge. I'd really recommend it, I thought it was more interesting than Kamakura though I liked the whole area. Iwamotoro Honkan was a nice place to stay there.
Not trying to hijack the threat (well maybe a little) but is there accom on rabbit island? I think I'll try that one next trip. I've been to a rabbit café but that was a bit meh.

There is one hotel on rabbit island. Rabbit island is considered unpopulated.
Meaning no one stays there. (Technically the hotel staff are just working there)
Saw school kids running about.
Food/Bed is at the single hotel. There is some stuff related to the war and the place where the ferry docks.
