Elderly visit to Kiyomizu-Dera 2014/9/28 17:26
I would like to take my elder parents visiting the Kiyomizu-Dera. You are kindly requested to advise a 1-day route of visiting attractions of Kiyomizu-Dera. Thanks.

You don't need a full day to visit Kiyomizu-dera. Maybe an hour or two at most.

How elderly? How active? The climb to Kiyomizudera along Chawan zaka is steep. I strongly suggest a taxi to get you as far up as possible. There will still be plenty of stairs etc
Good luck!

Yeah, agreed with fmj. Take the taxi as high as you can then walk the rest. The temple complex itself can take an hour or two but the precinct will take a lot longer and it is a great place to get pottery or other knick knacks, especially on the walk from there to Gion which is mostly downhill. We tend to spend the best part of a day around there, including lunch
