When to buy for a Dec 20ish ticket

I want to go to Japan to visit my boyfriend for Christmas. I went to 2 years ago and the ticket was only $900 with Malaysia airlines. I keep looking now and they are $2000! I know i bought my ticket in October. Should I wait a week and see if it goes lower?

Where are you flying into? Just saying flying into Japan not going to help much, and with peak season during December, price should be pretty high.
