JR Pass 2014/10/9 13:28
Hi all,

I will be visiting japan at the end of this month from 28-11 nov. I will be in tokyo from 28-3, osaka from 3-7, kyoto 7-10 and back to tokyo from 10-11. May I ask how many days jr pass should i get? And which day should i activate it from?

Thanks guys!

No much any pass if your plan no change.

JR-PASS valid "consecutive days" type only.

25(years) means 2013 now 2014 is 26 as Heisei.

Use regular fare search first.

you should return to tokyo within 7 days to make use of the 7 day JR pass.

None of them would pay off, tbh. For a 7 days pass, a Tokyo-Kyoto roundtrip is needed + some daytrips and/or transfer to the (Narita) airport to really get your money back and some. But it's only valid of consecutive days.

Are you doing any daytrips? Like Osaka-Hiroshima-Osaka? Tokyo-Nikko-Tokyo?

If yes, maybe a 14 days pass would pay off but with this itinerary? No way, get individual Nozomi tickets.

Won't a 7 day pass be just nice for me to take the bullet train to osaka and then back from kyoto to tokyo? It falls within 7 days.

7 days = 3-9 Nov

If you were returning to Tokyo on the 9th, then a 7-day Japan Rail Pass will cover the return trip nicely. But you are returning on the 10th. A 14-day pass will be a waste.

In your case, unless you are making any other JR Shinkansen trips, just buying single JR Shinkansen tickets will be better.

I would do all my Tokyo days first, then on Nov. 5 take the Shinkansen to Kyoto/Osaka.
On Nov. 11 you can take the Shinkansen to Tokyo (Shinagawa station) then the NEX (Narita Express) to the airport at Narita.
If you leave Kyoto around 08:00 you can buy a Bento at Shinagawa when you change trains and eat lunch on the NEX (real Japanese style).
I did that last April and I got to Narita around 12:00.
