Accommodation in Beppu

I am looking for a good basic (not to expensive) accommodation in Beppu for December. Does anyone have a recommendation for me?

I stayed at Nishitetsu Resort Inn Beppu.

The leading Suginoi often has cheap plans for around 9000 yen per person, including buffet dinner, breakfast and entry to the superb rooftop onsen (which costs 1500-2000 yen for non-staying guests):

Hotel Arthur and Hotel New Tsuruta offer basic accommodations for about 5000 yen and both have onsen. Business Hotel Star has rooms in the 3000 yen range but has no onsen.

There are some good things to see aside from the famous hot springs as well. The Hell Tour, monkey park/aquarium, and mountaintop view from Mt. Tsurumi are all nice:

I have stayed twice at the Beppu Kamenoi Hotel. It was clean and well kept up. It also had several different restraunts to choose your breakfast and dinner options from. The hot springs baths were good, but I was a little shocked when some of the men brought their young daughters in with them (probably 5 to 7 years old). Since then, it has happened in several other hot springs resorts, and I am used to it.
