Hotel Arthur and Hotel New Tsuruta offer basic accommodations for about 5000 yen and both have onsen. Business Hotel Star has rooms in the 3000 yen range but has no onsen.

I have stayed twice at the Beppu Kamenoi Hotel. It was clean and well kept up. It also had several different restraunts to choose your breakfast and dinner options from. The hot springs baths were good, but I was a little shocked when some of the men brought their young daughters in with them (probably 5 to 7 years old). Since then, it has happened in several other hot springs resorts, and I am used to it.

Thank you very much for all your suggestions! A lot of them are already booked, apparently ILm a bit late. But I found a room in Ryokan Nogami Honkan.
