Traveling to Miyajima 2015/1/3 17:49
Hi
I would like to add visiting Miyajima into my travel plan in February 2016. However, I am unable to decipher what this website indicates as it is all in Japanese except it says "JR" and fare to Miyajima island -
http://www.jr-miyajimaferry.co.jp/fare.html

Does this mean that the ferry to Miyajima is associated with Japan Rail (JR)? If so, would anyone know if there is a way to obtain some discounts on the ferry ride to Miyajima. Basically, I am not sure what Miyajima has to offer except the Great Torii, Oyster festival and Mount Misen.

Thanks

Access to the island is explained in English here:

And the island's main attractions are introduced here:

If you have a JR Pass, the JR ferry is free.
There is lots more to see on Miyajima: the pagoda, the huge Buddhist temple complex, the shrine attached to the torii, the giant rice scoop (they originated on Miyajima)...and of course, you must eat momiji manju! They are delicious maple leaf-shaped cakes filled with various creams. So yummy!
