suica vs. unreserved ticket

I am planning a trip from Shinjuku to Ito using local trains.
Shinjuku to Odawara via Odakyu Odawara Line
Odawara to Atami via Tokaido Line
Atami to Ito via Ito Line
Can I use the Suica card at the gate or do I have to buy train tickets prior to boarding the train? If I need to buy a train ticket, am I able buy an unreserved ticket in advance?

The entire trip can be done by Suica. (By the way, also the section from Ito to Izukyu-Shimoda can be paid by Suica.)
