I will be travelling to Japan in Feb 2015 and wanted to experience the overnight farmhouse stay. Unfortunately, the Ogimachi farmhouses are all booked out. Therefore, I am considering staying in Ainokura. Trip details: Nagoya to Takayama (JR Train) - 140 minutes. Will be catching the 7.45 AM train. Takayama to Shirikawa ( Nohi Bus) - I have seen the timetable but not sure how to interpret it. Do i look at Shirikawa dep times? Need a bus around 10:15 AM Shirikawa to Aniokura - Again i have the timetable but which ones do i look at? Need a bus about 15:30 - 16:30. From Aniokura i am planning to go Kanazawa. what is the earliest bus?
It seems to be a fair bit of trouble to do this, would anyone recommend the stay? Perhaps i might just do the tourist tour from Takayama. How would you compare the farmhouse stay to the mount koyasan overnight stay?
Thanks

Nagoya to Takayama (JR Train) - 140 minutes. Will be catching the 7.45 AM train. Then you will be arriveing in Takayama at 10:02. Takayama to Shirikawa ( Nohi Bus) - I have seen the timetable but not sure how to interpret it.You will have to transfer buses in Shorakawago. Here is the timetable from Takayama to Shirakawago: http://www.japan-guide.com/bus/shirakawago.htmlSince you arrive in Takayama at 10:02, I suggest to take the next bus departure at 10:50, which arrives in Shirakawago at 11:40. From there, you have to take a different bus to Ainokura. The timetable is here: http://www.japan-guide.com/bus/gokayama.htmlSince you arrive in Shirakawago at 11:40, you could take the 11:55 departure. Alternatively, you could spend some time in Ogimachi before taking a later bus (13:55, 14:50 or 16:00). The bus ride to Ainokura takes 45 minutes. From Aniokura i am planning to go Kanazawa. what is the earliest bus?Again, there is no direct bus. You could travel via Shirakawago (bus-bus), Suganuma (bus-bus) or Takaoka (bus-train or bus-train-train). The bus timetables are linked above. Train timetables can be looked up here: http://www.hyperdia.com/How would you compare the farmhouse stay to the mount koyasan overnight stay? They are both highly recommended. The farmhouse stay feels much more rural/personal. Of course, they are very different besides the similarities that you stay in a tatami room and eat a Japanese meal.
