Hakone hiking at start of April 2015/1/13 08:35
Hi there,

We are planning a 2 week visit to Japan in March/April, and are are considering stopping in Hakone for a couple of days toward the end of our journey. Our main reasons for visiting Hakone are the onsen and also the scenery. We are interested in doing some day hiking. We have heard that there is a beautiful part of the Old Hakone Tokaido that is available for hiking, but it is apparently between 80 m (Hakone-Yumoto) and 800m (Moto Hakone) above sea level.

We are thinking of being there about the 2nd & 3rd of April. Is there likely to be snow there at this point? Or will the hiking trail be free of snow and lush?

Thank you for your help!

Skaara. :)

It's a good time of year for hiking. I hiked in Hakone in the middle of summer and it was way too hot and humid. There could be a bit of snow, but my hikes around Tokyo in April were generally very good.
