Buy Sagano Scenic Railway ticket in Tokyo

I will staying in Tokyo (Ueno) during 30 Mar – 3 Apr 2015. During in Tokyo (Ueno), can I buy Sagano Scenic Railway Ticket in some JR office or another Travel Agency? If yes, please suggest nearest places to buy this ticket. I will travelling to Kyoto Arashiyama on 5 or 6 Apr 2015.

From what I know. You can call them to make a reservation. But you cannot buy tickets beforehand.

I'm also very keen to know. Afraid the tix will run out when I'm there for Autumn foliage.

Any idea how fast in advance i.e. 1-2 weeks will the tix be sold out?

We did this train ride last Nov, during the peak season of Autumn foliage. We did not make advance reservation, and felt lucky to get tickets upon arrival. However, we noticed that tickets were still available, plenty for that afternoon rides; even more for the return journey from Torokko Kameoka Station.
I found the ride was completely over-rated. In my opinion, Sagano Scenic Railway was so uninteresting compared to the Kurobe Gorge Railway.

I agree that it is not too interesting. But it isn't bad.
True that some rides are empty. When I arrived, they told me the next few were full and I had to wait for three hours for the 4pm one.

That means, certain timings would be busier than other timings. Book early for choice seats and time.

Book by calling them. If you can't do Japanese use Google Translate or ask someone who knows to do you a favor.

Seat ticket sales start just one month before 10:00am.

View plaza is not JR-East(railway company) ticket office
just one of JR-East group campany as different company.
