Hakone Itinerary

Hi,

We are planning a two day stay (9-10 April) in Hakone and are planning to stay at Aura Tachibana (Hakone Yumoto area).

We are thinking of purchasing Romance Car tickets arriving at Hakone Yumoto at around 2pm on 9 April;

We are planning to go sightseeing based on the Hakone Round Course (and will buy the Hakone 2-day Pass);

1. Overall, how long will the round course be if we do it in a day? and what's the recommended time to start?

2. A. If we are unable to finish the round course in one day (if starting at 2 pm) Could you guys advise on how to split the round course plan for two days if we are only arriving in Hakone Yumoto at 2 pm? i.e which sites can be done during that day (9 April after 2pm) and during the second day (10 April).

2. B. During the second day, what time should we book the Romance Car to go back to Tokyo?

gives you the travel time taken on each section of the loop.
Factor in the amount of time needed at each location eg the Open Air Sculpture Park etc
and then work out what you can fit in.
Also factor in the time taken to get to accommodation etc etc
I would expect that arriving at Hakone Yumato at 2pm will not allow you to do a great deal that day: again, it depends on where you are staying.

Check the dinner time at your hotel - they tend to start in the range of 5 pm to 7 pm (starting time).

Considering that you will be arriving in Hakone as late as 2pm, I would probably do a museum or two that day, then return to the hotel, then do the round course the following day. Or, you can probably visit the Owakudani (with the famous "black eggs") that day, then return to the hotel. But be careful with the operation hours of the ropeway.

We usually start at 10 am from Hakone yumoto...
