Tateyama Alpine Route - round trip ticket

i will be staying in Toyama for 2 nights, buy round trip from Tateyama station to Kurobe Dam using different modes of transporation, but when return to Tateyama station is it using same modes of transporation or different route to go back?

From Kurobe Dam back to Tateyama, it is by far easiest and fastest to backtrack the Alpine Route. There is just one Alpine Route. The only alternative to the buses, cablecars and ropeways are hiking trails (covered by snow until early summer).

The next fastest way would be to take trains via Shinano-Omachi and Itoigawa. See the map on the following page to get an idea:
