I have an internship this summer at a firm in Yokohama. I am getting paid but only 2000Y/day. I would be working for only 7 weeks. Can I do this on a temporary visitor visa?

Temporary visitor visas do not allow you to earn money. The company you are interning for should be organising you a work visa (they sponsor you).
