JR Pass for 16-day Japan

I am seeking advise on how many days Train Pass to purchase for my below itinerary :-

D1 KLIA - KIX Airport / Washington Hotel
D2 KIX - Kyoto / Eastern Kyoto
D3 Western Kyoto - Arashiyama
D4 Central Kyoto
D5 Osaka
D6 Osaka
D7 Osaka - Matsumoto
D8 Matsumoto - Kanazawa
D9 Kenrokuen, Omicho Market, Kanazawa Castle
D10 Kanazawa - Takayama
D11 Takayama - Shinhotaka Ropeway
D12 Takayama - Osaka
D13 Osaka - Hiroshima - Miyajima
D14 Miyajima - Himeji
D15 Himeji - Mt Koya
D16 Mt Koya - Wakayama
D17 Wakayama - KIX - KLIA

First where are you based out of? Looks like either Kyoto or Osaka?

I would say (if it was me) I would get the JR West Pass

It covers most of were you want to go and you can pay the difference in your travels. I revised you schedule to cover most of your travel with the 7 day pass.

D7 Osaka - Kanazawa
D8 Kenrokuen, Omicho Market, Kanazawa Castle, Nija-dera
D9 Takayama - Shinhotaka Ropeway (Day Trip) Or skip Takayama and spend extra day in Kanazawa or Matsumoto
D10 Kanazawa - Matsumoto
D11 Matsumoto - Osaka
D12 Osaka - Hiroshima - Miyajima
D13 Miyajima - Himeji
I did cut a day off Takayama by making it a day trip.

You could also buy 2 of the JR West passes (please check Hyperdia to see if this would pay out) and/or keep your schedule as is).
You could also do a JR 14 day pass, but it does not look like it would pay off. Feel free to look at cost on Hyperdia.com

I would also switch around a few things:

Have struggling to work on the Train Passes. Checked through and looking into 2 passes and will buy single journey ticket for Hiroshima area since I will be at this area for 3 days only (the Hiroshima pass is for 5-day).

Will you give me some advise on my findings.
