Is it impossible? Moving to Japan 2015/7/31 06:16
It has been my dream to move to Japan since I was little. I always felt, I was more Japanese at heart.

But, my dream is also to be a musician.
I want to be in a Gothic (Visual style?) band. Although the scene in Japan is unfortunately shrinking...

But I know I will need another job, which leads me to another question:
Is there a night job that will possibly sponsor work visa?

I do not have a college degree.. I never wanted to go to college either (but if I absolutely must, I suppose I have no other choice... I know if I was born in Japan I would have been made to...). I have a high school diploma, but I was homeschooled.

My Japanese skills are perfect, like native. Speaking, reading and writing. I socialise online with Japanese people, who all believe I am Japanese.

If I am unable to move to Japan, I will definitely get out of this country anyways.. But I really want to live in Japan, permanently if possible ...

Thank you for reading. And please do not respond harshly.

As I understand it (but I am no expert), you need a degree or several years' experience in your field before you can be sponsored for a work visa. Work visas are not given out for jobs like waitressing, cleaning, etc.

@Masaya

You said "If I am unable to move to Japan, I will definitely get out of this country anyways.. But I really want to live in Japan, permanently if possible ...", but you didn't actually say which country "this" country is!

Also you said you thought you were "Japanese at heart", and that you speak Japanese like a native, but don't provide details about how/why. e.g. Are you parent(s) Japanese, or did you just learn Japanese at school?

You also don't say how old you are, because if you are less than 30yo, you may be able to get a Working Holiday Visa, and line up some sort of work on a more permanent basis.

Other than that, you will need a university degree to get legitimate work in Japan. You may need to target the type of work you want to do, with that degree, or else teach English. However, you need to figure out if teaching English is realistic if you want to live in Japan permanently.

Just some quick advice...

If you have never visited Japan, it would be wise to do so before making a permanent move.

If you really want to live there permanently, there is always a way if you are determined. Dreams come true only if you want them to. Stay motivated and never lose sight of your goal.

Also, don't be afraid if your goal(s) changes down the track. I always thought I wanted to be a translator or interpreter, but my career has moved to a different field and I am very thankful it has.

Lastly, seek as much advice as you can, learn to take constructive criticism, and don't live in a fantasy land - keep it all realistic.

I'm sure others will be along soon enough to answer questions about how to go about moving to Japan (but please search through the forum as this topic has been covered millions of times).

to answer one person's questions, my parents are not Japanese, I did not learn Japanese at school (I am self taught and was homeschooled), and I am under 30, over 18. Was fluent in Japanese by the age of 15, same age I graduated high school from home.

And no, my goal will not change, at least not much. I have loved music all my life and would be in misery if I must abandon that forever... I'd rather move somewhere other than Japan than do that.

Would a job as a bartender get me a work licence?

Re: Is it impossible? Moving to Japan 2015/8/7 11:28
Unlikely. Bartending is not a profession you need a degree or several years' experience to do, and local Japanese can bartend.

No, bartending and other general type jobs are not covered. You would need to look into something else, but given your background you may want to consider a career as a musician and then see if you can leverage that to get to Japan.
