I am planning to hike Mt Mitsutoge before dawn starting from Mitsutoge Station. I would like to know during that time is it safe from wild animal (ex. bears, wolves, dogs)? I will be hiking alone.

There are no wolves in Japan anymore, and wild dogs are virtually non-existent, as well. When I hiked Mitsutoge, there were no warning signs about bears, so I assume the area generally does not have a lot of bears. Still, in order to avoid a possible surprise encounter with a bear, it may be good to bring a bear bell or make some noise otherwise.
