Studying in Japan 2015/2016 2015/8/1 00:55
Hello!
I'm Julia and I'm 21 years old. I live in the capital of Poland.
I study at the University of Warsaw and my major is teachign foreign languages. I will graduate in June 2016 and then I decided to move to Tokio. Of course I need to find a job so I have been thinking about teaching English or maybe Polish? I will have a bachelor's license and this year I also want to take the CELTA course.

But I must admit that I am quite impatient and that's why I decided to write here. What do you think, is there any chance for me to study in Tokio before I move there in 2016? Is there a possibility to graduate in Tokio? And if not, then what would be your suggestion?

Thank you in advance.

Does your university offer a study abroad program? That could be your best bet to spend some time in Japan before deciding to move there. It might not be Tokyo (depending on which university has a tie to yours), but that might not actually be a bad thing, since it'll give you a chance to live in Japan and explore different areas.

Most big universities have study abroad programs. Check with yours (there should be an office) about the program and requirements.

Hello!
Thank you for your reply.
Well, I am not sure whether my university can send me to study in Japan. I guess they mostly send students to the European countries.
However, I know that there is a program called Monbukagakusho and some students from Poland have been to Japan thks to this program. I checked it yesterday and it looks that I should graduate first and then I can apply for the master's degree in Japan. So that won't be this year I guess.
I am also a little bit worried about the money.
Is it possible to study and work in Japan? The scholarship they write about is around 147,000 yen. Is it enough?

I think you better to seek a fully founded scholarship to study in JP first. Polish language is very low demand in JP. It's about 1,500 polish living in JP.

I know. Only few people are interested in learning Polish.
I think that the only possibility for me to study in Japan would be that MEXT program and as I have already said the scholarship is 147 000 yen, which I'm afraid is not so much. What is your opinion?

147,000 is plenty of money - especially because they already pay your tuition.

Money is never enough but if you intend to live in student hall(dorm), I think you can pay your expenses.

You think so?
But I also need to pay for the apartment I guess. Is it possible not to live in a dormitory?

If 147 000 is enough + I would manage to find a part-time job like teaching or something...well, maybe I could do that.

You made me want to apply for this scholarship!

The average expense students away from home is 124,140 Yen per month as at 2014 in Tokyo(excluded tuition fees, included part-time earnings and student loans). If you live in apart other than in Tokyo, I'm sure you can manage your money matters.
Save as much money as possible before you visit JP.
