Out of the tourists path 2015/8/3 19:51
Hello,

I will be visiting japan in September for 24 days, travelling by train.

I want to go a nice othentic place that is not tourists poplar road, also see japanese fishing village.

I was thinking about Tomo-no-ura.

1. Is that place worth a one day tavel for off road and fishing village experience?
2. Are there any other suggentions in this area or maybe shikuko/Kyosho?

Thanks alot!

Tomonoura is one of a famous place, it is not the fishing village but tourist destination.
Onomichi next town of Fukuyama is a good town with the history, From Onomichi you can rent a bicycle, you have left to go to Shikoku using some of the bridge. You'll be able to see the original landscape of Japan at the islands to visit.

Have a good day in Japan.

I agree with what @kazu1959 says about Onomichi http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e3475.html. There is plenty to see there & it is easy to reach by train. It does not suffer from crowds of tourists which I find surprising.

Not popular would be those pilgrim roads. Since mostly pilgrims go there.

Onomichi would be an excellent choice. It is NOT a pilgrim town. And, if you have time, the unique Kosanji Temple is worth a visit.

Ohara hit the nail on the head. Kosanji is just amazing.

Kotohira in Kagawa is also a beautiful half day hike. Countless stairs but still great scenery on the way up and from the top.

Ritsurin Garden is Takamatsu is also a joy. Hard to get to, but well worth it once you see it in front of you.

The Akiyoshido Cave is also fantastic - best cave in Japan and you witness what 300 million years of nature at work can achieve.

Kyushu is loaded with great places. If you want isolated fishing villages, Kumamoto has some picturesque ones.
