Solo Traveller 6D5N itinerary 2015/9/1 23:11
I'm a solo female traveller, will arrive Osaka for 6 days 5 nights. I'm thinking to feel the Japanese alps, plan to visit Kyoto, Nara, Shirakawago. Please help with the transport, place to stay, and activities to do. Thanks so much!

This forum is not a place where you can ask people to plan your holiday for you. You need to do some research yourself. Have a look at the pages on this website dedicated to the sights you want to travel. Do some hotel/hostel/ryokan searches and see what you like. Design a rough itinerary/plan, and THEN ask people for suggestions.

Well she did mention her cities she wants to go and the amount of time she has. Just wants to know the most efficient method of transport and going about places.

I have no idea how to get to Shirakawago or Takayama. I am dreadfully fearful of taking buses between cities. There was this one time the airport coach caught on fire on a highway.... But for some reason I am fine with tour buses, that was how I traveled to those places.

I recommend:
Spending a day or two in each city. Kyoto requires an extra day if you have time. To know how to get from place to place use Hyperdia. You should start in Osaka, then Kyoto, Kanazawa, Takayama & Shirakawago, then Tokyo

Thanks Joshua for your kind reply. Any recommended stay in any specific area to stay in Kyoto and Osaka? Also which pass is suitable to explore these few cities?

Sorry you received such a nasty initial response. That really was uncalled for.

Glad that Joshua was able to help though.

These links may also be a helpful starting point for you based on the locations you mentioned:

As for accommodation, it would help to know what your budget is. If you can let us know how much you are willing to spend per night on a hotel, ryokan etc. then myself and others can make accommodation suggestions.

Hope this helps:)

For rail passes either:

or
http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2361_takayama_hokuriku.html

would be beneficial depending on your detailed itinerary.

Either take the shinkansen from Kanazawa/Toyama/Nagoya to Tokyo for your flight out.

Note that the Japan Alps area have many hot spring towns. These are amazing stay experience. With a rail pass it makes travel cost free and you won't have to worry about making short detours. E.g. From Kanazawa to Kaga Onsen

"Either take the shinkansen from Kanazawa/Toyama/Nagoya to Tokyo for your flight out".

@Joshua..I am sure that you are trying to help; however, the OP has not mentioned any of these places in her original post, nor has she indicated that she is departing from Tokyo.

Most the time, we will give OP suggestions or scenarios if there was not enough information given. In this case, Joshua just giving one of the scenarios for the itineraries the OP can plan for. Afterall, it is up to OP to make the final decision on the itineary.

I personally feel and like this type of suggestions as it can open up to new places that I had never consider etc.

Though, it will be better for OP to do at least some research and indications of where they want to go etc. That way, we could give a better suggestions.
