1. Maibara Station to Kyoto Station

20 minutes by shinkansen

2. Maibara Station to Kyoto Central

plus 10-20 minutes depending on where you are going.

Or what station name should I type in because there are 3 station names :-

You can look up the locations on google maps, but basically Kyoto is the main station where the shinkansen stop. Kyoto Shiyakusho mae is in front of the city offices, but there are some hotels in that area. Kyoto Seikadai mae is way out in the countryside and of no importance to travelers.

Thanks for your reply.

Because wondering should I book room at Maibara or Kyoto Station area.

Room at Maibara (JPY27K for 4 nights ) is not expensive but JR Pass cannot use for Shinkansen . If stay at Maibara need to pay for Shinkansen (Train fare is JPY3390 one way) which is quite costly too.

JR Pass cannot use for Shinkansen

The nationwide JR Pass can be used on this train.

Take a regular JR rapid train(no need tranfer) enough if save money or.
Use HyperDia like this.
http://www.hyperdia.com/en/cgi/en/search.html?dep_node=MAIBARA&arv_nod...
Also Google MAP easier for understanding with map and directions.
https://goo.gl/maps/DAcC4y3ecQQ2
Change dep date/time and arr point.

Mostly "Kyoto station" means "JR Kyoto staion" of JR(Railway company name) line.
Shinkansen using high speed track. (over 250km/h)
Rapid and other trains are using regular track(conventional line: diffrent railway/route)
JR Kyoto station is the biggest entrance for vititors/travelers also as train station.

(note)
Undergound of JR Kyoto statin placed another railway
"Kintetsu" and "(city) subway" line's station exist
but both are not calling as "Kyoto station" with kintetsu- or subway-kyoto usual.

And...
KYOTOSEIKADAIMAE means Kyoto Seikadai(Kyoto Seika University)-mae(in front of).
http://www.kyoto-seika.ac.jp/eng/access/
KYOTOSHIYAKUSHOMAE means Kyoto shiyakusyo(city hall of Kyoto)-mae(in front of).
https://goo.gl/maps/Z2pguk1q61U2
Both are different station and place/address.

Re: Train From Maibara Station to Kyoto Station 2015/10/2 01:23
Maibara and Kyoto Stations are connected by both JR conventional and JR Shinkansen lines.

(A) Maibara -- Kyoto by JR Biwako Line (#1) operated by JR-West
: About 1 hour by a Special Rapid train.
: About 1 hour 10 minutes to 1 hour 20 minutes by a Rapid train.
#1: This line is a part of Tokaido Line, which is operated by three JR regional companies.

The following JR passes can be used on Route (A).
: (JR-West) Kansai WIDE Area Pass.
: (nationwide) Japan Rail Pass.
: (JR-West) Kansai Area Pass.
: (JR-West) Kansai-Hiroshima Area Pass.
: (JR-West) Sanyo-San'in Area Pass.
: (JR-West) Kansai-Hokuriku Area Pass.

(B) Maibara -- Kyoto by Tokaido Shinkansen operated by JR-Central
: About 20 minutes by a Shinkansen "Hikari" or "Kodama" train.

A (nationwide) Japan Rail Pass can be used on Route (B).
You cannot take a Shinkansen "Nozomi" train with a Japan Rail Pass,
but currently all "Nozomi" trains are skipping Maibara Station.
Any JR-West area pass cannot be used on Route (B).

Major Stations on Tokaido Shinkansen (operated by JR-Central)
: Tokyo, Shin-Yokohama, Nagoya, Kyoto, Shin-Osaka.
Major Stations on Sanyo Shinkansen (operated by JR-West)
: Shin-Osaka, Shin-Kobe, Okayama, Hiroshima, Hakata.

Alpine Route Tour 2015/10/6 20:16
May I seek advise where should I stay after Alpine Toute Tour?

Day 1 I will be travelling from Kanazawa to Toyama.
Overnight at Toyama
Day 2 I will travel from Toyama to Alpine Route Tour.

My question is do I detour back to Toyama after the tour or how should I plan the Alpine Route Tour and how to handle my lugguage if I need to shift hotel?

Any suggestion on the Alpine Route Tour. I have been checking the Alpine Route web but not clear on the explanations.

Thank you for advise.
