I will be arriving thru Narita and flying out from Osaka.May i know the least expensive way to take from Tokyo to Kyoto.is the JR pass a good choice if my itinerary would only be tokyo -kyoto-osaka.thanks

JR Pass will not be good for your travel. I understand the cheapest way is overnight bus.

Tokyo - Kyoto night bus fare costs you 2500 - 6500 Yen. Leaving Tokyo around 22:00, arriving Kyoto around 5:30.
Kyoto - Osaka costs you 560 Yen, 28 mins by JR Kyoto line.
