Osaka to Kyoto to Takayama to Tokyo 2015/10/4 19:50
Hi,

Im going to Japan end of OCt 2015 for 17 days. I would like to seek advise for JR pass.
My itinerary as below:-
Day 1: Osaka (stay 5 nites)
Day 2: Aquarium Osaka
Day 3: Kotohira area (if possible will drop by Himeji) (Start Day 1: JR Kansai Hiroshima Area Pass )
Day 4: Wakayama
Day 5: Hirsoshima and Miyajima (Possible drop by Kobe for dinner)
Day 6 : Kinosaki Onsen (1 Night)
Day 7 - 10: Kyoto (4 nights)
Day 11-12 : Kyoto to Takayama (stay 2 nights)
Day 13: Takayama to Tokyo
Day 14: Tokyo
Day 15: Day trip to Mt Fuji from Tokyo
Day 16: Tokyo
Day 17: Early flight to Malaysia

Is it worth to buy JR Takayama-Hokuriku Tourist pass?
Does the pass include Shirakawa-go Tour and Gokayama Tour by Nohi?

Pls do give me some advise on my itinerary and budget transportation.

Your feedback very much appreciated

No it would not be worth it. Yes the buses are available.

I would do kyoto first. Then do wakayama, Hiroshima, takayama later. So I will get reach tokyo in 7 days and use the jr 7 day pass

Somehow your first several days based in Osaka sound very busy. Where in Wakayama are you going? Kotohira as in Kagawa prefecture? It is better to go to Himeji first to get access to the main keep of the castle (if you are interested).

Please take the travel time into consideration. I might suggest staying over one night in Hiroshima/Miyajima (you can find a nice ryokan there) instead of going to Kinosaki or Wakayama.

I didn't see the dropping by Kobe for dinner. That isn't possible. Hiroshima and miyajima from kyoto or Osaka in a day is very difficult but possible. What is impossible is to expect to be able to reach Kobe in time for dinner. Unless your definition of dinner is 9pm.

Mmm... I really need to re-plan my itinerary..

I also noticed the few first days in Osaka really very busy. Cause wanted to fully utilise the JR Hiroshima pass. Didnt really focus on the tourist places because will be back to Osaka after few months.

Thank you very much for the feedback.
Really appreciated it

Mikee

If you really need to do the plan you can get either one of the following two passes:
http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2361_kansai_hiroshima.html

http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2361_sanyo_sanin.html

It pays for:
Kansai Airport to Osaka or Kyoto
Osaka to Wakayama
To Hiroshima and back

Note that from Osaka to Hiroshima, you already pay the fee for the first pass (the more expensive one). Considering you are not exploring the northern part of Kansai or Chugoku, the second pass may be more worth your while. Depends mostly on how you plan to change your itinerary though.

Hi,
Thank you for the links.

I had actually re-plan part of my itinerary.

Plan to Buy 7-Days JR pass, might be taking Green cars.
Day 1 Pass: Osaka - Hiroshima & Mijayama (day trip)
Day 2 Pass: Osaka - Kinosaki Onsen (1 Night)
Day 3 Pass: Kinosaki - Kyoto
Day 4 Pass: Kyoto - Okayama (day trip)
Day 5 Pass: (no plan yet)
Day 6 Pass: Kyoto - Enryakuji
Day 7 Pass: Kyoto - Takayama

Hopefully, I did fully utilise the 7-Days JR pass (Green)

Hope to get some feedbacks.

Thank you.
All helps are very much appreciate.

Re: Osaka to Kyoto to Takayama to Tokyo 2015/10/6 01:07
I think the idea is to first go to Kyoto, and do everything there before activating your 7 day JR Pass. I think the suggestion for the 7 day pass was to do something like this:

Day 1: Trip to Okayama
Day 2: Trip to Hiroshima/Miyajima
Day 3: Kinisaki Onsen
Day 4 Trip to Wakayama
Day 5 Train to Takayama
Day 6 Stay in Takayama
Day 7 Train To Tokyo

I know that what you listed was a lot of day trips. I actually think that if you go to Okayama and stay there two nights, that you will have less time on a train on your day trip to Hiroshima and Miyajima. You might want to consider this.

I hope this helps.
