Is JR Pass necessary? 2015/10/8 12:59
Hi!

We will be traveling to Japan and will be at different places throughout the 10 days. Appreciate your advise if JR pass is necessary?

22 Dec - Tokyo
23 Dec - 26 Dec: Niseko
26 Dec - 28 Dec: Sapporo
28 Dec - 1 Jan: Tokyo

Thanks!

I assume you will be flying between Tokyo and Sapporo? Then, no.

Yes! We will be flying domestic.

For transporting between locations in Tokyo and Hokkaido itself we can pay per trip?

"JR Pass" (nationwide ones) are good if you use JR (Japan Rail) Shinkansen trains between cities. So if you are flying between Tokyo and Sapporo, you don't really have any major inter-city travels.

Within Tokyo, and between Sapporo and Niseko, local transport is good, and using JR Pass for that does not make sense.

Thanks! In this case, should I get the Suica or Pasmo card instead?
