How to get from Kansai to Tottori?

How do I get from Kansai Airport to Tottori? I'm thinking of using the train, but is it very expensive? is there any rail pass I should consider (besides the nation-wide JR pass, because I'm only going to Tottori for a couple of days before heading to Hiroshima and Fukuoka)?
