Things to do in Fukuoka 2015/11/30 16:13
Im going to be returning to Japan in Feb and visiting Fukuoka for the very first time. Im only going to be there for two days, any suggestions on things to do that are cool/unique to Fukuoka? Thanks!

There are lots of places to explore in the city and vicinity. It's all up to your interests.
In a nutshell, you can browse a lot of good places at

Many of the best places are close to a subway station, so a subway day pass might suit you well, or if you want to add buses to it, look into getting a Fukuoka Tourist City Pass.

The Nanzoin Temple just outside the city is excellent, and Japan's biggest wooden Great Buddha is at Tochoji in the Gion area.

Look into some beautiful gardens there as well like at Ohori Park, Yusentei, and Rakusuien. There are great city overviews at the Fukuoka Tower, Minami Koen Tower, and Aburayama.
There are also some beautiful ocean sunsets at Odo Park.

If you'd like to explore outside the city as well, some famous places include Dazaifu, Yanagawa, Kitakyushu, Karatsu, and Kurume.

I usually go to the Craic and Porter Irish Pub on Oyafukudori and say hi to Donneggar Mike, down a few beers, have something to eat, and then wander through the nightlife district around Nakasu checking out the Yatai and stumbling businessmen on my way back to my hotel. I sometimes have dinner at Nanaks, an Indian restaurant near Oyafukudori, and always try some Tonkotsu ramen at Hakata Kinryu (博多金龍) in front of Fukuoka University.

The city museum often has interesting special exhibits. You can check at the information counter in the middle of Hakata Station to find out. There's always somebody there that speaks good English. There are also several potteries in the area if you like handicrafts.

Thank you very much guys. I Will definitly check out the wooden buddah (I've already seen the biggest Stone Buddah in Japan) so that will be cool to see.

Nanzoin has a giant bronze Buddha too; very impressive and not many people know about it because it's not listed in the guidebooks.
