Front car of Nagano wide-view train? 2016/2/8 08:39
I have previously booked seats looking out the front of a 'wide-view' train travelling from Matsumoto-Nagano, and would like to show my parents the view on an upcoming trip.

This time its the reverse leg - Nagano-Matsumoto on a Shinano wide-view.

Does the green car end up at the front when travelling in this direction?

If not, is it possible to book seat looking out the front?

On the Nagano to Matsumoto run, the green car is at the rear of the train. I'm sure you can ask for the front car seats at the ticket counter.

Thanks John BdJ,

I thought that may be the case. I also wasn't sure if if you could look out the front of the ordinary class car.

So that means that the front car(s) become reserved seating, rather than the unreserved seating that I thought they were at the back of the train on the Nagoya-Nagano run?

Cheers, Simon

I'm not sure about the last two cars, since I've seen diagrams in the Japanese site and it appears that the green car is last, followed by 3 reserved cars and 2 non-reserved cars. I may be wrong, though. I sat in the green car on my Nagano to Matsumoto run, so I can't tell you what was ahead of me.

Front car is Non-reserved[自:自由席],
Rear car is Green[グリーン。 "Four-leaf clover" icon with].

長野:Nagano 名古屋・大阪:Nagoya,Osaka

No direction change until end station.

But in that case front view(Non-reserved) is not so good.
BC different car(face and room layout) using.

Non-reserved :

Thanks - yes, that sounds like the diagram that I was basing my question on, but I couldn't tell what the Japanese/arrows meant (thanks!).

So it sounds like the Nagano-Nagoya run has two unreserved cars at the front, and won't be reservable.

I will try to ask for the front seats, and see what happens. I'll take one of my old photos with me to help explain what I'm asking for...

Thanks Hzan - you have confirmed and clarified what I needed to know.

Thanks for the pictures, very helpful. I won't bother with trying to sit at the front on this leg.

Much appreciated
