suitable passes to be used in kyoto 2016/2/11 12:22
i will travel to japan in september and will be staying in kyoto for five days. i planned to make one day trip to nara/osaka and spend the remaining days in kyoto.

what train/bus passes should i used in kyoto and the a day trip to nara/osaka?

right now i am confused over ICOCA & Haruka and Kansai Thru Pass?

If you will fly in/out KIX and stay 5 nights in Kyoto only, basically Icoca & Haruka ticket round trip type is your best bet.

Kansai Thru Pass is also useful to travel from KIX to Kyoto, but this is valid only for non-JR ("private") railways, which requires at least two transfers and is slower than Haruka direct train.

If you travel Nara and Osaka in one day, it will be somewhat packed. You can use Icoca prepaid card for this trip, or you can buy JR Kansai Area pass one day (note that this pass is not valid for non-JR trains).
