Transportation in Beppu?

Hi! I am going to be in Ritsumeikan APU this september. I would like to prepare ahead before I arrive to Beppu. I tried to look for local transportation in Beppu city and found out that there are two types of buses commuting but I have no idea if there are any trains or rails available. And also if IC cards are used in Beppu city.
Please suggest me on this! Thank you very much!

There are four JR Kyushu stations in Beppu city (on the Nippo Main Line). The local IC card is Sugoca of JR Kyushu, but other compatible cards (Suica et al.) can be used as well.
There are local bus lines of Oita Kotsu and Kamenoi Bus. IC cards can be used on Oita Kotsu buses.
