I don't see the need to. Almost everything is near the subway train line. You're better off purchasing the prepaid card to tap in and out of station. Otaru has a one day offer for a return trip I reckon. Can't remember if they still have it.

Alternatively, use hyperdia to calculate the cost.

compare the one day pass and maybe even a 3 or week pass so that you get the best rate since your travels are local
