Driving to Blue Pond from Furano 2016/4/4 13:30
Hi,

So far that I've searched around on how to get to Blue Pond, it's usually from Biei via the Route 966, either driving or via bus.

Due to logistic, we are thinking of driving from Furano to the Blue Pond instead. Is this possible? A simple search on google map shows that it is possible, but I do wonder if it is not advisable to do so.

Itfs perfectly feasible to drive from Furano to the Aoiike Blue Pond.

I stayed at Shirogane Onsen (just a little past Aoi Ike - Blue Pond) for almost a week to explore Biei and Furano last January and drove to Furano to visit; it was an easy drive and that was with with loads of snow and ice on the roads. I visited Aoi Ike several times and there is ample free parking. The waterfall just behind the hotels at Shirogane Onsen is certainly worth a visit too.

BTW, there are lots of interesting scenes around Biei, certainly worth visiting the famous trees and copses: http://monochrome.me.uk/blog/copse-biei-hokkaido-1/

I do have Shirohige Falls in my itinerary since it's in the vicinity of Aoiike, but did not consider Shirogane Falls because I thought it's part of the onsen area that's not open to public. Will include it in the plan, thanks!

Hoshisato, those are some nice photographs. I will go there in summer so the landscape will be different from yours, but I'm sure summertime there will be as breathtaking

Thanks again William5 and Hoshisato :)
