Aomori Nebuta Matsuri Festival

My family of three plan to attend the Aomori Nebuta Matsuri Fesitval. We want to take the Shinkasen from Hakodate to Aomori on August 7 and I managed to get accommodation for that night (though very expensive). Please advise if you know of a way I can reserve the Shinkasen tickets (I read only one month advanced bookings), also is it really worth attending the Festival for the last day? Have heard that it would be super peak to travel in Japan that week.

Trains can indeed be reserved one month in advance. You can book online in English with JR Hokkaido, but then you cannot use a rail pass.
