Renting Kimono in Fukuoka 2016/4/13 01:22
Hi
I'll visit Fukuoka,Japan in next week.I would like to wear Kimono in one day trip at Fukuoka,Whisteria garden & Yanagawa city but until now I can't find a kimono rental shop with full English description.

Could you recommend me a Kimono rental shop in Fukuoka? Also I wonder can I wear kimono in Wisteria garden?

Thank you,

One location is 30 minutes north of Fukuoka and one location is 60 minutes south of Fukuoka. Would you really wanna wear a Kimono to these locations getting in and out of cars or public transport?

If you type "kimono hire fukuoka" into google. You will be awarded with many options.

In Kyoto near Kiyomizudera for example there were a few places like that, with some Chinese girls going in to be outfitted and feel more 'in the spirit'. But Fukuoka does not have such a huge amount of tourists going in with that in mind. There are kimono rentals of course, Japanese use them for weddings, university graduations, etc - but they are the very pricey formals ones (not the summer yukata type) and not meant to tour a city in.

It seems to me you'd be better doing that in Kyoto if you wish - you will be more comfortable and get more sightseeing done efficiently wearing what you are most comfortable in. Besides, you wouldn't want to spill or drip any of that tonkotsu ramen on you, would you?

There is a lot to see in the city though - many of the best places are near a subway station, and a few you can take a bus if you need to. A subway day pass can help you out a lot, or look into getting a Fukuoka Tourist City Pass

Thank you you all for the information.
I'll go there with my Japanese friend by his car so it's quite convenient for us.

How about this one?

Fukuoka isn't so popular for foreigners renting kimono, so probably many companies don't have English websites. But it's becoming more popular in general with younger people to rent and walk around for a fun day of pictures. In your case, I hope you can enjoy it!

By the way, when you go to dress I would have your Japanese friend mention you'll be traveling around by car for a long period of time. The kimono dresser will hopefully chose a flatter, more comfortable obi style for you as you'll have to lean back on the seat, which can squish a big bow on your back pretty badly (and its uncomfortable after awhile). They should also show you how to readjust the kimono when you get out of the car so it still looks nice, as sitting can wrinkle it a bit and also shift the collar.
