Driving near Mt. Fuji area

Hi
In early December, we are planning to rent a car at Gotemba station and drive to Fuji Safari Park and then to Fujiten Snow Resort. It gonna be our 1st time driving during winter.
May I know if we need to get the snow chain? What is the typical weather like around that area?
