Farmhouse stay at Shirakawa-go 2016/7/8 22:56
Hello

Me and my partner are hoping to stay at a farmhouse at Shirakawa-go on 25th September. We tried through Japanese Guest Houses and they said their ones are fully booked. Does anyone know any other ways to book them?

We'll be travelling from Kyoto to Tokyo and have three days en route so was thinking Kanazawa, Shirakawa-go and Takayama. If anyone has any alternative suggestions (if we can't end up staying in Shirakawa-go) then please let me know

You might be already noticed, but Gokayama might be an alternative.

Or you might be able to ask Japaneseguesthouse to put you in the waiting-list, since 25th Sep is two month ahead so that someone might cancel on the day or some guesthouses release their rooms during the 2 month period.

Or this is not the same category, but Okuhida onsen might be good if you want to stay in Japanese style ryokan.

You may refer to the website below:

You may want to try:

http://www.japaneseguesthouses.com/

That site is ran by Americans (I think) in Japan who can be the middlemen in booking places. You can preview the places here:

http://www.shirakawa-go.gr.jp/search/?m=1 (Japanese)

If you can actually read Japanese, you can always try to book directly as well. I usually book ryokan and onsen hotels directly with the innkeeper. You usually get better deal that way as well. Also, as you may have already know, expect cash-only payment.

I agree with the suggestion to check out Gokayama. We stayed at Ainokura earlier this month, which from what I had read is smaller than Shirakawa-go, but not as mobbed by tourists.
