Travel - pregnant with 2 years daughter 2016/8/15 22:32
Hello, My husband and I are going to Japan in 30th August 2016 until 13th September 2016. It is our first time in Japan and also travelling while pregnant.

I have planning my itinerary as follows:

Day 1: Arrive in Japan, walk around Shibuya (we book our Airbnb around here)

Day 2: Harajuku & Shibuya

Day 3: Ikebukuro

Day 4: Yokohama

Day 5: Ginza, Hibiya, Yaruchiko

Day 6: Hakone

Day 7: Asakusa, Odaiba, Roppongi,

Day 8: Disneyland

Day 9: Akihabara, Ueno

Day 10: Sourthern Tokyo - Tokyo Tower, Shiba Park etc

Day 11-13: Still thinking (Any ideas??)

Day 14: Fly back home

Therefore I had some questions:

1) Is it our itinerary is too lite?

2) Other suggestion for 1 day trip from Tokyo? or shall we put trip to Osaka/Kyoto?

3) How's the weather in September? The forecast shows it will raining all day.

Thank you.

You are only listing cities, it would be hard to tell if it is too light without listing what you are hoping to do or see.

Day 11 -13 have you considered going to Kanazawa? Or going to Hakone?

I can not tell from you post, but do you have a two year old daughter with you for the trip or is it just you and your husband?

How far along will you be in your pregnancy? You may need time off your feet (everyone is different). Maybe plan some nice lunches so you have time to rest your feet.

You should see Disney Sea (instead of Disneyland Tokyo or both). There is no other Disney park like it.

2) Other suggestion for 1 day trip from Tokyo? or shall we put trip to Osaka/Kyoto?

If you want to go to Kyoto, look at getting a 7 day JR Pass. I would do at least two day in Kyoto (there is a lot to see). If you like castles go to Himeji as a day trip if you get a JR Pass. Osaka has a great aquarium and night life. It did not interest me for a full day trip, but my friend says it is her favorite city. It all depends on your taste.

3) How's the weather in September? The forecast shows it will raining all day.
Wet. The weather for August and Sept is usually rain and humidity. Make sure you bring a rain jack (to or past the knees) and an umbrella. You can always pick up an umbrella in Japan. They have some fun color changing ones.

Hope this helps.

Ultimately it boils down to what you want to see, but frankly I'd say you're putting in way too much time for Tokyo - about 3-4 days is enough and there are many nearby sights you can see to expand your experience. You've already mentioned Hakone which is good, and a Hakone Free Pass is a great way to see it.

If you're going to see Harajuku, the best time to see it is on a Sunday afternoon. It's next to Meiji Shrine and well worth seeing.

Yokohama is good (especially the Sankeien Garden) but I suggest you get an early morning start and devote most of the day for Kamakura & Enoshima. There's a good pass for there also.

Taking some time to see Kyoto & Nara would be a good idea too - especially if you can reallocate another day or two for it. A japanican discount ticket is a great way to get down there.

Not sure where you're getting some crazy weather forecast for 'rain all day' more than a couple weeks before September. You could still get hit with some of the summertime brain melting heat and humidity, and you could have a typhoon blow through, but such storms pass through in a day or 2 usually.
If you're seeing Tokyo already, you can largely skip Osaka, although after the temples in Kyoto close down around 5 PM you can go see the city in the evening - Dotonbori is great at night and the night views from the Abeno Harukas Bldg or Umeda Sky Bldg are stunning.

If you want some other day trips from Tokyo, Nikko is one big choice, as is Karuizawa, Izu, Kusatsu, the Hitachi Seaside Park and the Boso Peninsula.

Regarding you pregnancy, some airlines would like to be notified about it, and if within 30 days of your due date you might even need a Fit to Fly letter from your OB/GYN. You might contact your airline to check.

Some don't allow travel past 26 weeks. All are different. So yes very good advice to seek more info.
