Is Nohi bus reservation necessary?

Seem to us that October is a busy time for Japan travelling. 4 of us are going to visit Shirakawago from Takayama by Nohi bus on Oct 19, 2016. Do we need to reserve tickets now while we are still in N. America?
Can we reserve tickets in Tokyo?

If you have Japanese spoken language skills, then by all means, call now to reserve. We've done this Nohi route to Shirakawa-go a couple of times, and we've had our hotel concierge in Tokyo make reservations, by phone, once we're in Japan. No sense in waiting.
